At the edge of a forest a black figure lay motionless among the trees. The autumn sun bathed him in orange light as it slowly retreated to the horizon. The body was charred in some places, his face barely recognizable. A long sword lay grasped in his right hand, blood smeared on the sharp blade. And still visible on his burned coat was the ornamental crest of some far off country. Half a mile away, a young woman with dark purplish hair stumbled down a dirt road. Her navy cloak was singed and was splattered dark brown-red blotches.
The Bloody Flames Ch.1Rhea brought the flames to life. They danced to the small movements of her hand, licked the bottom of the skillet and flickered over its edge surrounding the noodles with heat. With a flick of her wrist the flames grew calmer and she threw a variety of vegetables, seasonings and fried beef into the pan. The dance of the stove fires seemed exhilarating. Mrs. Dien hardly ever let her cook. The Diens were a grumpy couple that ran a small restaurant. The shop was small and only the three of them worked the place, but the customers were decent and the food was good.The Bloody Flames Ch.1
